Bucketman is inspired by PacMan, but its ported to the streets of OpenStreetMap, aka YOUR neighbourhood!
In a near future all vehicles have an artificial intelligent steering system which helps the humans while driving. One day there was a fatal error in the global server and all AIVs (Artificial Intelligent Vehicles) disconnected and drove from now on unsupervised through the streets of the world.
In 14 challenging missions you will help Bucketman to fight the AIVs. During the game Bucketman will learn how to jump and even paint the AIVs to avoid collisions and to win time, as time will become your biggest enemy.
With the time the cities became dirty and grey due to the pollution of the ever driving AIVs.
And then, one day, a hero appeared and with your help he will fight back the AIVs to cleanup the cities and free the humans that live in fear.
In 14 challenging missions you will help Bucketman to fight the AIVs. During the game Bucketman will learn how to jump and even paint the AIVs to avoid collisions and to win time, as time will become your biggest enemy. After some more time you will unlock the super paints which make Bucketman super so he can destroy the AIVs.
In the end you will discover a secret and that you can not always believe what you hear…
There are furthermore survival maps in the game where you can compete in a global leaderboard, play in different maps from all around the world or use your current position to play. (very soon there will be a leaderboard for your current position maps and you can compete with your friends in your neighbourhood)
The game also has a skills and feature system so you can level up during the game and become better and better. You have always the possibility to play survival maps to collect more paints and water to upgrade or unlock stuff.
Until now the game is Android only, but as soon as I have implemented the last features and functions of my toDo list, I want to port it to iOS.
I had the idea of a game in the streets of google maps. It was something different than Bucketman and the idea of Bucketman came up as a Mini game inside this other game. As I did not have any background in programming of games I asked some game studios how much it would cost to make this game. When they told me how much this would cost, without any guaranty that it would be a success I decided to forget about this whole idea.
But somewhere in the back of my head the idea of Bucketman grew more and more and soon I felt, that it could be a game by it self and even more that I could maybe do it myself, because come on, it can not be so difficult to make a pacman game …
So I became a games developer! (I was unemployed in this time and thought: until I do not find a job, I could at least learn something new, you never know what its good for…)
I started with game salad and could create a first (very fucked up) prototype.
Unfortunately could I not load maps into the game and had to preload them, what was not my goal, as I wanted to give the possibility to play wherever you are.
So I switched to corona and I am still happy with it.
By the time Bucketman learned how to jump and also how to throw paints to color the AIVs. I am also not using google maps, as I do not have access to the raw data, but OpenStreetMap which is btw. an anazing project and deserves all support possible!
So, yeah. here it is. my first game. after about 6 month of daily programming and more two at half this rate (as I am now no more unemployed)
Oh, and in case you wonder why its called “coloring your city”, this is because initially I wanted to give the player the choice how he want his map to luck like. I mean, which color have the highways, the footpath, the traffic lights, the houses, and everything. Unfortunately can I not (jet) effort the money to buy a corona enterprise licence to include native libraries and I also did not have the time and the skills to write my own ondevice renderer… but its on my todo list…
