The Waste Land, a "metroidvania" style side-scroller inspired by T.S. Eliot’s poem, puts players in the role of a fallen king who must find his way to right the wrongs caused by his own hands.
Developed by Fledermaus and published by Digital Tribe Games, The Waste Land has players explore a vast world across seven continents and meet memorable characters while fighting off twisted creatures to survive a hostile land – all in gorgeous 8-bit style.
In The Waste Land you are the King Zyron III, ruler of all the known lands, who’s actions on a an ordinary hunting trip cause a rip in the balance of nature. Creatures mutate sending your once loyal subjects into a state of fear and it is up to you to set things right. Seek out more powerful weapons and secret items to give you an edge while exploring the vast lands in your quest to take down five giant beasts to reset the balance of nature you upset.
The Waste Land is quite simply an exemplar Metroidvania style game that also brims with originality. It almost feels like a lost Castlevania game from the NES era that was recently
unearthed. – Hardcore Gamer, who gave The Waste Land a 4.5/5.
Fledermaus consists of just one man, Michele Caletti, who is a game director by trade with over 10 years experience under his belt. He is now excited to launch his passion project, The Waste Land, which he worked on in his spare time during his commutes by train and on his lunch breaks over the last 5 years. When coming up for a name for this indie endeavor Michele wanted a name without the abused “videogame insider jokes” style, something weird and distinguished, and Fledermaus just popped into his mind and has stuck ever since.
